Guilty plea, intervention for Lyndhurst men in Carlstadt sports bar brawl

ONLY ON CVP: Without witnesses, prosecutors this week allowed one Lyndhurst man to plead guilty to reduced charges and another to enter a special diversionary program for their roles in a Carlstadt sports bar brawl earlier this year.

The fight involved three men leaving Kilroy’s on Washington Avenue the night of Feb. 21 and a trio who’d been ejected earlier.

One of the victims was knocked unconscious, while another had a fractured eye socket and a nose broken so badly that he required reconstructive surgery, police said.

Elvis Rapozo (above, right), 23, pleaded guilty in Hackensack to a disorderly persons charge and will pay fines.

Rapozo, who originally was charged with simple assault and improper behavior, admitted that he interfered with people who were trying to help the victims — in essence, blocking them from giving aid.

Justin (Shaun) Cosenza (above left), 20, meanwhile, was admitted to Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) by Superior Court Judge Edward A. Jerejian for 24 months.

Authorities charged Cosenza with aggravated assault and endangering an injured person.

His record in the case will be cleared if he meets all the program’s requirements during that period — although the judge told him he could apply for early termination after 18 months.

Prosecutors opposed Cosenza’s admission but said they’d been unable to produce the victims and, therefore, had no witnesses.

A third Lyndhurst man arrested that night, 22-year-old Jose Tejada, was dropped from the case, Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Dyanne Lluch said.

The fight was the second in a week at the popular sports establishment. Six nights earlier, an off-duty Teaneck police officer suffered two fractured eye sockets, a broken nose and a dislocated jaw when he was attacked during a brawl.
