William J. Mackey, 28, and David J. Farone, 23, of Rensselaer are charged with possession of more than 25 pounds of marijuna with the intent to sell the drug and possession of THC, in addition to possession of more thn 50 grams of pot, under the indictment.
Mahwah Officer Ryan Hill pulled over the rented Chrysler Town & Country for a traffic violation near Mountainside Avenue on June 30, Police Chief James Batelli said at the time.
David Farone (above, right), didn’t have the necessary paperwork for the vehicle, Batelli said.
Both he and Mackey “appeared nervous and gave inconsistent and conflicting stories when asked questions,” the chief said.
Responding to assist were Sgt. Michael Blondin, K9 Officer Robert Rapp and Officers Keith Iorio, David Vega and Michael Jack.
After obtaining Farone’s consent, Hill searched the min-van and found 39 large vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana — weighing a pound to a pound and a half each — in various compartments and a suitcase, as well as the hash oil and drug paraphernalia, Batelli said.
Mackey posted $100,000 bail and Farone $75,000 (both reduced from $250,000) and were released from the Bergen County Jail nine days after the arrests.
