Graffiti taggers facing host of charges in Hackensack, South Hackensack

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAS IT FIRST: Four accused vandals are facing more than 20 counts of criminal mischief in Hackensack after they were arrested by South Hackensack police for spray-painting cars, buildings and a cemetery fence with graffiti touting a brand-new clothing company scheduled to open this week in Hasbrouck Heights.

“We’re still getting cost estimates, so we don’t know yet how severe the charges are going to be,” Hackensack Lt. Jaime Barrios told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

Victims reported finding “OMG” and the company symbol for the fledgling Blasted Clothing company spray-painted in the south end of the city and in South Hackensack, Barrios said.

Blasted Clothing, originally scheduled to open in Hasbrouck Heights this week, has been advertising through social networking the past several weeks to what it calls “hipsters, skaters, bmxers, graffiti heads, hip hop lovers, nerds, and/or anyone who digs it.”

Barrios said neighboring South Hackensack was hit particularly hard, as well, with several cars, two homes and a fence around Maple Grove Park Cemetery tagged.
