Detective Dennis Serritella responded to the Willow Street burglary call just after 9 p.m. Wednesday and found the homeowner struggling with Theodore Sutton of Garfield in a second-floor apartment, Capt. Darren Sucorowski said.
Serritella arrested Sutton, who records show has an extensive criminal history.
Officers and detectives, meanwhile, determined that he’d entered through an unlocked rear door and began looking for valuables, Sucorowski said.
The homeowner “was in the basement when he heard footsteps and confronted [Sutton] in the 2 nd floor apartment,” sustaining minor injuries during the resulting scuffle, the captain said.
On Feb. 22, a Rochelle Park police captain on the lookout for burglars arrested Sutton after spotting him in a garage.

A local judge sent Sutton to the Bergen County Jail, although a state judge ordered him released nine days later under New Jersey's new bail reform law.
Sutton remained held without bail in the county lockup on Friday pending a detention hearing on two counts of burglary and one of simple assault following Wednesday night's Garfield incident.
