Garfield career burglar gets 4-year sentence with credit for time served — four days

ONLY ON CVP: A Garfield career criminal with 15 previous felony convictions told a sentencing judge in Hackensack that he was entitled to a year and half of jail-time credit — then got all of four days while being sentencing to four years in state prison for a Little Ferry burglary.

Dwayne Thorpe, 46, already is serving several state prison terms for burglary convictions out of Bergen, Essex and Middlesex counties. The earliest he could be eligible for parole is January 2017.

He’s also facing a burglary charge in Passaic County that could keep him locked up even longer.

Thorpe has a criminal history nearly all of his adult life and is “a very high risk to reoffend,” Superior Court Judge James J. Guida said.

His record includes a one-year stretch in state prison from May 2009 to April 2010 for a dozen burglary convictions, following by two years beginning two months after his release.
