Bergen County prosecutors have initiated extradition proceedings for Brandon Segar, who was being held at Riker’s Island following his arrest in New York City, court sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Segar, who turns 33 this coming Sunday, was one of four men charged with a scheme that went sideways after one of them put a loaded gun to the head of the investigator.

Back-up units immediately moved in and grabbed him, the admitted ringleader and Segar, of downtown Manhattan, who was sitting in the back of the guman’s Chevy Malibu, authorities said.

Next thing they knew, a Toyota Camry suddenly barreled toward the officers, hitting several cars in heavy traffic before speeding off. The driver, Yohan Balcacer, was arrested the next day.

A judge in Hackensack last week sentenced Balcacer (above, top right) to 12 years in state prison for his role in the botched heist.

The ringleader in the four-defendant case, Jose Rodriguez of Union City (above, bottom right), testified against Balcacer during the trial.

Segar made bail on a hindering charge and fled, authorities said.
