Todd Braithwaite, 41, of Paramus, is charged with kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault during the commission of a crime, and sexual assault with force.

He is being held on $500,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, with a Hackensack Municipal Court date Wednesday morning.

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Hackensack police arrested Braithwaite last night “after learning that he sexually assaulted an adult female who was providing home health care for an occupant of the home that [he] was visiting.”

The victim told police that the single, unemployed Braithwaite, who used to live in Hackensack, “forced her into a separate bedroom in the home where he sexually assaulted her,” the prosecutor said.

“The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was notified and further assisted the Hackensack Police Department in the investigation,” he said.

Braithwaite escaped from Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Parsippany in October 2008 after stabbing a fellow patient in the face with a butter knife.

It took local police less than a half hour to find and capture him.

Braithwaite was institutionalized in 2001 after an aggravated assault. He’d spent 123 days in the Ann Klein Forensic Center, a secure psychiatric hospital in West Trenton, before being committed, records show.

It’s unclear why he was eventually released from the Greystone.
