The rains have continued as the water slowly recedes in some areas.
Meanwhile, PSE&G reported 1,400 outages in and around Maywood this morning, among 8,700 customers statewide who were without power.
A stretch of Route 3 in Clifton remained temporarily closed, while just about all of the major highways experienced some accumulation.
“I have never seen flooding like this on the Garden State Parkway and Route 17,” one law enforcement officer said.
Five people were plucked from a bus and another from a car by boast after three vehicles became stuck on eastbound Broadway in Fair Lawn, Detective Sgt. Brian Metzler said.
Borough police, along with the Fair Lawn Rescue Squad and Fire Company #1 responded to the area near the railroad tracks.
Fair Lawn Fire Unit Marine 1 then went in and got everyone out safely., Metzler said.
In Glen Rock, tow truck operators from Hawthorne remove a car that became stuck in three feet or so of water beneath the NJ Transit bridge on South Maple Avenue (PHOTOS TOP, BELOW).
The male driver recently was graduated from college and was heading back to Massachusetts to start a new job, said Glen Rock PD Capt. Jonathan Miller (watching the action in photo). He had to climb through the window to get out, the captain said.
No delays were reported on NJ Transit (trains, buses) or at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The National Weather Service’s flood watch continues through 10 o’clock tonight, with more thunderstorms expected. It will be pretty much the same tomorrow, the service said.
Roughly four inches of rain was expected today — three of which had already fallen by noon, the weather service said.
