Carol Lynn Palma cannot hold public office again and could lose her pension benefits, following today’s sentencing in Hackensack, which drew nearly two dozen supporters.

A jury convicted Palma in April of swiping the money, failing to pay taxes on the additional income and filing false tax returns.

Palma took the brunt of what Bergen County prosecutors said had been a conspiracy to defraud taxpayers. Ex-Schools Superintendent Robert Paladino and former Clerk Brian McGuirt testified against her during the trial in exchange for leniency — with Paladino getting probation and McGuirt pre-trail intervention.

Palma, a borough employee for nearly a quarter-century, was suspended two years ago after being charged.
