Firefighter in crash wasn’t headed to a call

ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT: A North Arlington volunteer firefighter was not responding to a call when his speeding car spun into an oncoming lane and “t-boned” a 86-year-old woman’s car, sending her to the hospital with cracked ribs and head injuries, authorities told CLIFFVIEW PILOT on Monday.

Witnesses said Anthony Bruno, 35, of River Road in North Arlington, was speeding and driving erratically when he lost control of his Dodge Viper south on River Road near Belmont Avenue, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The crash critically injured Mary Butler, of Melrose Place in North Arlington, the prosecutor said.

There’s no evidence of drug or alcohol use, he said.

Prosecutors have charged Bruno with 4th-degree assault by auto causing serious bodily injury. He remains free on $10,000 bail.

Butler is recovering at Hackensack University Medical Center, Molinelli said.

Bruno wasn’t injured, nor was a passenger in the victim’s car, the prosecutor said.
