The 2½-story wood-frame Central Avenue house, at the corner of James Street near a firehouse, had been vacant for several years and the source of previous trouble for emergency responders.
Fire officials said they were trying to determine the cause of the fire, which they said began on the bookshelf in the rear of the house.
“No accelerants or fire starters were found in the building,” they told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “No power or gas to this home, so it didn’t start that way. It had to have been from someone inside.”
Bogota firefighters were joined by their Hackensack and Ridgefield Park colleagues, along with borough police and EMTs.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Arson Investigation Unit also responded.
