False alarm in ‘suspicious powder’ incident in Rochelle Park

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: What originally was reported as “suspicious powder” found at the Mack-Cali Centre in Rochelle Park turned out to be “some kind of food substance,” a source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.

The brownish/blackish powder brought members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force (comprised of the FBI, State Police and other agencies), as well as the Bergen County Hazardous Materials Unit and Office of Emergency Management.

It was collected for testing, the source said.

Workers at the building also were interviewed.

A female employee was said to have been taken to the hospital, but authorities told CLIFFVIEW PILOT they thought it was due to stress and not any type of poisoning.
