Detectives Jason Liaban and Matthew Parodi developed information that led to the Sept. 16 arrest of 28-year-old Sammy H. Fayez, Police Chief David Pegg said.

They also recovered what turned out to be an imitation semiautomatic pistol, the chief told Daily Voice.

The West Pleasant Avenue business owner told police that he’d just left the business around 9:45 p.m. Aug. 12 when a robber in a black hoodie and a mask pointed a gun in his face, Pegg said.

The victim said he threw cans of whipped cream that he was carrying at the assailant, who took off.

Fayez, who Pegg said recently had been fired, posted $52,500 bail and was released from the Bergen County Jail on Sept. 21.

He was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault with a weapon and illegal weapons possession, along with tampering with a witness and threatening to commit a crime.

Pegg thanked Saddle Brook police, who he said assisted in the arrest.
