Marcus Carter, 36, conspired with his girlfriend using jail phones, an indictment returned by a grand jury in Hackensack this week alleges.

Carter, of Staten Island, was arrested last August after leading a U.S. marshal on a chase through traffic outside the the Homestead Village/Extended Stay hotel.

Sometime after, he began communicating with his girlfriend, Charmaine Coit, 24, also of Staten Island, the indictment says.

Coit was arrested in May, then posted $75,000 bail and was released from the jail three weeks ago.

Carter had his bail boosted by $75,000, to $117,500 from what had been $42,500 as a result of the drug charges.

Both are charged with conspiracy and manufacturing or dispensing drugs.

According to a previous indictment, Carter was carrying two Raven Arms .25 caliber handguns, hollow-nose bullets and 123 bags of cocaine that local police said would have sold for roughly $7,500 on the street.

The original charges included being a felon in possession of a handgun (having been convicted of drug-related felonies on Staten Island), having illegal ammunition, possessing a weapon while committing a drug crime, drug possession, distributing cocaine, resisting arrest and being a fugitive from justice.
