Kevin Wilson remained with the pumper truck, fulfilling his assignment, during the West Palisade Avenue fire, which blew through the attic and second floor.

Wilson, who lived on the first floor of the 2½-story, wood frame house, had upstairs tenants who got out in time, emergency responders said.

Firefighters from several towns, including Bergenfield, Hackensack, Teaneck and Tenafly assisted.
