After less than four hours of deliberations, jurors agreed with Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor David Calviello, who said during the trial that Jarrell Bordeaux, 27, and Marc Rainey, 26, both of Englewood, “were literally caught red-handed,” and that a third man, 31-year-old Renando Sheffield, was an accomplice.

Rainey flashed a “victory” sign to CLIFFVIEW PILOT Courthouse Reporter Mary K. Miraglia. Bordeaux rubbed his chin with his hand and tilted his head back.

Sheffield, however, hung his head. His girlfriend, with whom he has a young child, sobbed both in the courtroom and in the hallway outside.

The judge revoked Sheffield’s bail pending sentencing Sept. 20. Bergen County Sheriff’s officers then brought all three to the county jail.

“The State is pleased with the jury’s verdict,” Calviello told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “We thank them for their service.

“We look forward to the sentencing, when the State will ask the court to impose a discretionary extended term of imprisonment for each defendant,” he added.

As a result, each faces up to five years in prison, and possibly more, on the convictions of receiving stolen property.

Ringleader Akeem Boone and a co-defendant, Jamie Singletary, both pleaded guilty to their roles in the theft of the safe from Connecticut, which the crew was trying to crack open when a task force of detectives and other officers burst in on them at an Englewood garage.

Co-defendants Sheffield, Rainey and Bordeaux were all tried together.
