Frank Vargas, 30, punctured the 29-year-old man’s lung in the July 24 assault, authorities said. He later recovered from his injuries, they said.

The victim, Syed Uddin, had been wounded in a 2011 triple shooting in Paterson that left another man dead.

Besides attempted murder, the grand jury charged the 5-foot-8-inch, 172-pound Vargas with inflicting a serious injury while showing “manifest indifference to the value of human life,” as well as a trio of weapons counts — including being a felon in possession of one.

Vargas has a previous conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, records show.

He remained held on $200,000 bail today — reduced from the original $300,000 — in the Bergen County Jail.
