"No one was in the elevator when the fire broke out around 2:20 p.m., triggering alarms," William Schievella, the sheriff's public information director, told Daily Voice. "Nobody was injured. Nobody was in any danger."

People were let back into the building a short time later, he said.

"At least it wasn't a bomb threat this time," said a county employee who was among the evacuees.

The has been subjected to a series of threats the past couple of weeks that have forced evacuations of the courthouse, the county administration building and even Bergen Community College, while tying up streets and taxing resources.
