Elderly woman hit by pickup truck in Westwood

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: A 68-year-old Westwood woman struck by a Ford pickup while crossing Washington Avenue at the corner of Broadway just after 5:30 had her skull fractured, authorities confirmed tonight. “She was responsive at one point, but she didn’t look so good when they put her in the ambulance,” a witness who spoke to police told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The driver, entirely red-faced, sat on a curb with her boyfriend and three of her children while officers put orange cones at the critical spots and awaited accident investigators. The woman’s straw hat rested nearby.

The woman was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

A group of youngsters sitting at outdoor tables on the other side of Washington Avenue said it appeared the woman smashed the back of her head on the pavement while crossing the street in front of the Bank of America building. The driver of the pickup apparently had turned from Broadway.

“She was small,” a female teen told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “I wonder if [the driver] even saw her.”
