Officer Jared Shatkin spotted the red BMW 745I “being operated erraticly, weaving in and out of traffic” on northbound Route 17 around 3:30 yesterday, Detective James DePreta told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Shatkin tried to pull the car over but the driver took off, heading onto westbound Route 4 before eventually stopping, DePreta said.

Tyra Jordan, 40, and his passenger, 21-year-old Briana Alford of Hackensack were removed from the vehicle.

Shatking turned up the warrants and he — along with Lt. Dean Pinto and Officer Ryan Burke — noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the BMW, DePreta said.

After obtaining Jordan’s consent to search the car, the officers found a the silver and black .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun stashed in an air filter compartment in the engine, he said.

They also found a small amount of marijuana in the car, DePreta said.

Police charged Jordan with various weapons counts — including being a felon in possession of a gun — as well as possession of the hollow-point bullets and the pot.

Alford, who DePreta said interferred with the search of the car, was charged with obstructing a goverment function and released on a court summons.
