James O’Connor, 30, was speeding south on Farview Avenue when the cycle crossed the double-yellow line as it reached a slight hill and turn in the road and slammed head-on into a 2001 Toyota Camry at Carletta Court just before 7 p.m., Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

O’Connor, who responders said fractured both arms and both legs and suffered a serious head injury, “was catapulted over 150 feet from the point of impact,” the chief said.

His 2013 Suzuki GSX “was unrecognizable,” one witness said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit responded, along with Paramus police, EMS and Rescue Squad members and a paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

The 31-year-old Toyota Camry driver from Fairview declined medical attention for minor injuries, Ehrenberg said.

O’Connor was charged with reckless driving and DWI, the chief said, adding that an investigation was continuing.
