Witnesses told police the 2007 Nissan Altima was headed north on Hackensack Avenue with five Bergenfield occupants just before 3 a.m. today when it hit a concrete median near the westbound entrance to Route 4, overturned and hit a utility police, ending up in the parking lot of the Applebee’s restaurant.

A law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that the driver was drunk and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he remains under the custody of county sheriff officers.

Three of the passengers were also hospitalized in critical condition — at HUMC and St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson, the source said. All were sitting in the back seat.

They were identified as Alvin Cancio, 21; Daniel Hernandez, 20; Michael Doudoujkin, 20, all of Bergenfield.

The driver, 20-year-old Ryuichi Nakada, was charged with DWI and three counts of aggravated assault for the critical injuries to those three, police told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Also injured, though not seriously, they said, was 19-year-old Dashawn Sparrow, also of Bergenfield.

Sparrow, who was sitting in the front passenger seat during the crash, was released from the emergency room of HUMC around 7 a.m.

“Thankful tht I was able to get outta there…,” he wrote on his Facebook page, “praying for my n*****s…”

Meanwhile, Nakada, originally from Queens, recently wrote: “Fly like the birds or end up swimming with the mof***n fishes”

The Hackensack Police Traffic Bureau and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit were on the scene quickly and began an investigation that is continuing.
