Nicholas Devenio was being held on $127,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary with a weapon, three counts of theft — one each of movable property, deception and simple theft — and criminal mischief.
Rutherford police arrested him last night — his birthday — at his girlfriend’s Lyndhurst home, Police Chief John Russo said today.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Devenio also has theft by deception charges pending out of Fort Lee and Hackensack — along with the September 2013 break-in caught on surveillance video (photos above).
Authorities recovered one of the firearms, a service weapon, but the other gun and the badge were still missing, Russo said.
The jewelry includes items that Devenio allegedly gave as gifts that the recipients returned to authorities and an engagement ring and Tiffany bracelet that turned up in a pawn shop, the chief said.
Russo said Devenio took the jewelry and a safe containing the guns and the badge from the officer’s home after breaking in on July 26, 2013.
Police arrested him that September after he was “quickly identified within minutes of his picture being posted” a day after the second break-in, Russo said at the time.
A tipster led police to a wedding in Cape May, where they found and arrested him.
