Decorated Bergen County Police officers promoted

ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT: The end of 2011 has been a roller-coaster ride of sorts for Alan Brundage, but he’s now a proud captain with the Bergen County Police Department. Brundage was officially promoted along with Gabriel Escobar, who received his sergeant’s stripes, at a ceremony in Hackensack.

Brundage, an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served in the first Persian Gulf War and Operation Desert Shield, stepped down as a Paramus councilman on Dec. 6 to devote more time to the job and avoid potential conflicts.  

His daughter, Savannah, was recently born. His dad died earlier this month.

Brundage joined the county department in 1996 and served as a nationally-recognized gang expert, a SWAT team sniper, a detective and a program manager for the Police Athletic League.

A past president of PBA Local #49, Brundage has been the Officer-in-Charge of the county department’s Field Training Program, developing and implementing training for all newly hired county police officers.

He currently is second-in-command of the department’s Operations Section, supervising the Patrol, Traffic Safety, Special Operations and Security divisions.

Escobar served three years as an infantryrnan in the U.S. Army, becoming a corporal, and serving in the Persian Gulf and the Republic of South Korea. He joined the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department in 1999 before moving to teh BCPD two years later.

Escobar has had an illustrious tour with the department, receiving commendations for large drug and cash seizures, working as a K-9 officer, a search-and-recovery diver, and an internal affairs investigator.

He currently is a detective in the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Both men were officially promoted on Monday by County Executive Kathleen Donovan and County Police Director Brian Higgins.
