South Hackensack police took five people into custody on various assault and weapons charges.
Responding officers Sunday afternoon found four siblings and a fifth man -- all from Hackensack -- fighting over the child, Capt. Rober Kaiser said.
Witnesses told them that Asia Anderson, 23, repeatedly stabbed the fifth man, 20-year-old Davoun Hill, in the back with a box cutter as he lay on the ground clutching the youngster, Kaiser said.
Moonachie First Aid & Rescue Squad treated Hill and another combatant who injured his foot during the melee, the captain said.
Hill was charged with simple assault, as were two of her brothers, Aaron Anderson, 21, and Warren Anderson, 19 (who was charged with criminal mischief).
Meanwhile, she was charged with aggravated assault and illegal weapons possession.
A third brother, 17, was issued a juvenile complaint charging him with simple assault.
All were released pending court hearings.
The state Division of Child Protection and Permanency was notified.
