“We don’t think his eyesight is impaired,” Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.

Officers responded to Crankshaw Place just before 8 a.m. today on a report of the injured worker, who was having difficulty breathing, Fox said.

The 32-year-old employee of Gaeta Recycling and Sanitation, which collects trash and recycled materials for the township, had just made a pickup from a home on that street when the bottle sprayed him in the eyes and face as it was being crushed, the chief said.

The fluid inside was a cleaning solution for limestone that included hydrochloric acid among its ingredients, Fox said.

The man was treated at the scene and taken to Hackensack Medical Center, the chief said.

The incident is under investigation, said Fox, adding that the bottle might have been tossed out by contractors.
