Detectives were cruising the parking lot of the Garden State Plaza in Paramus a little after 8 o’clock Wednesday night when they spotted the 4-door 1993 Honda Accord, Hackensack Capt. Tomas Padilla said.

“They waited a little while and he came out,” said Padilla, the department’s commanding officer. “The good news is he’s safe. There are no damages to the car.”

Police sent a delinquency complaint signed by the boy’s mother to the Family Part of Superior Court in Hackensack alleging what in adult criminal court would be theft, Padilla told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The boy likely will be referred for counseling, Padilla said.
