Eric Reamy, 51, of Fair Lawn was removed from Level 1 suicide watch, but Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Daniel Keitel said authorities remained concerned about his mental state and the fact that two guns he said he sold hadn’t been accounted for.
Should Reamy post bail, Keitel said, authorities want him wearing a monitoring bracelet and the judge to include possible home inspections as part of the conditions.
Before that happens, Keitel said they want to hear from the jail psychiatrist about Reamy’s mental state.
Defense attorney Richard Potter objected to his client being held, but Superior Court Judge Edward A. Jerejian ordered that Reamy remain at the jail through the weekend pending a court appearance at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Prosecutors charged Reamy on Wednesday with exchanging sexually explicit messages with two girls — ages 14 and 17 — and with asking the younger one to provide naked photos of herself after sending her two of his private parts.
Reamy, who was scheduled to retire the end of this month, “engaged in this conduct while he was investigating and or supervising the two juvenile females,” Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said after a judge ordered the married sergeant held on $250,000 bail.
His home was searched and computers seized, along with weapons that authorities said Reamy legally owned.
Prosecutors charged the 27-year veteran, who is also a Fair Lawn firefighter, with five counts of child endangerment.
