Church among 16 sites hit by Fairview graffiti vandals

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAS IT FIRST: St. John the Baptist Church was one of 16 spots targeted by a trio of alleged graffiti vandals — one of whom, at only 21 years old, already has a long rap sheet — who were caught by Fairview police.

The total amount of the damage exceeds $8,000, Detective Capt. Martin Kahn told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

In addition to criminal mischief, conspiracy and desecration, Christian Salvatore Ciccolella, 21, is charged with hindering his own arrest.

Ciccolella’s brief adult arrest history already includes drug dealing, criminal mischief and probation violation charges, records show. His latest arrest represents another violation. He remains free on $2,500 bail.

The third alleged member is a juvenile, Kahn said. Delinquent complaints for him were being forward to the Family Part of Superior Court in Hackensack, the captain said.

A private security camera captured images of the three spray-painting the word “SCOPE” on an Anderson Avenue building Wednesday night, Kahn said. Fifteen other locations in town had similar tags, he said.

That same night, police spotted Ciccolella with a group of other people on Anderson Avenue. He and the juvenile were taken into custody, Kahn said, adding that the third defendant was expected to soon turn himself in.
