Carlstadt police say man tossed gun out window after firing into bedroom wall

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Carlstadt man fired a shot into the wall of his home during an argument and then threw the gun out the window, said police who arrested him.

Officers responded to the 10th Street home of Gregg Venturini on a call of a domestic dispute involving a handgun at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, Police Chief Thomas Nielsen said this afternoon.

Venturini, 56, apparently made “suicidal gestures” before firing a single .22-caliber shot into a bedroom wall and then tossing the legally registered Sterling Model 302SS semi-automatic handgun onto a back door overhang below.

“Although Venturini had physically assaulted his wife and son, no one had sustained any serious injury during the incident,” the chief said.

Sgt. Damir Blagec and Officer Christopher Hasch took Venturini into custody and recovered the gun.

They charged him with:

possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose;
aggravated assault;
making terroristic threats;
simple assault

Venturini was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for medical treatment and was being held on $34,500 bail today in the Bergen County Jail.

He was given a Sept. 8 Municipal Court date.
