Booted from counterfeit music and movie business

ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT: CD prices were more than reasonable at Jacob Robinson’s Main Street shop in Hackensack — and with good reason: He was selling bootlegged copies of albums by Alicia Keys, Ludicris and others,  Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) pointed investigators to JR Clothing and Variety, where undercovers ended up buying counterfeit CDs and bootlegged movies over the past several weeks, Molinelli said.

Each time, Robinson, 39, of Presidential Boulevard in Paterson, was behind the counter, the prosecutor said.

They raided the place Tuesday, seizing more than 100 duped CDs and DVDs, along with the burners used to make the copies.

Robinson was charged with violating the state’s anti-piracy law and taken to the Bergen County Jail on $25,000 bail.
