Detectives grabbed Alton Coleman as he walked away and 29-year-old Phquon Cook as he drove from 293 Murray Hill Terrace around 7:30 Thursday night, following complaints of drug activity at the senior and public housing building, Police Chief Michael Carr told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Coleman was first taken to Holy Name Medical Center “after complaining of feeling ill,” the chief said.

He was being held on $123,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with drug possession – with additional counts for being nearing a school and a public housing complex.

Cook posted $25,000 bail and was released pending a court date on the same charges. He also received summonses for being unlicensed and suspended and for having drugs in his car.

Both have first appearances in Municipal Court scheduled for Wednesday. The matter was being referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury action, although the case is also still under investigation, the chief said.

Bergenfield Police were assisted at the scene by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit drug dog, he said.
