Bergen smash and grab commercial burglaries spread to Maywood

CLIFFVIEW PILOT SCOOP: Maywood has become the latest town victimized by a series of smash-and-grab burglaries, say police, who reported four that occurred between 4 and 5:30 a.m. Sunday on West Pleasant Avenue.

Detectives are conferring with their counterparts in several other towns, including Hillsdale, River Edge and Oradell.

Whoever was responsible grabbed cash left in the registers after shattering the front doors of Glenn’s Pizzeria, Dragon Garden, Perfect Nails and Wang Wang Super Taco with “what appeared to be pry tool,” Maywood police said.

The Pascack Valley towns were hit a month ago — each through the front doors.

As in those cases, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence at the scenes of the Maywood break-ins.

Police urge business owners and residents to use strong locks, good lighting, alarm systems, and other security measures to protect property.

As always, report anything or anyone suspicious to the police immediately. Our local departments always say that no call is too insignicant: It could be the one that helps solve a difficult case.
