Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino said his officers arrested 67 people responsible for nearly $2.8 million in unpaid support.
Most were brought before judges and turned over nearly $40,000 -- the second-highest amount collected in New Jersey -- or made arrangements to pay, Saudino said. Those who did neither were jailed.
Bergen County was second in New Jersey in the total amount owed and sixth in the number of warrants served, he said.
Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said his officers arrested 31 men who owed nearly $780,000.
The New Jersey Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) and the Sheriffs’ Association of New Jersey (SANJ) united for the effort.
