Sheriff’s Officer James Schielzo and K-9 “Noki” found the man in the woods near the Avalan at Wesmont Station development on the old Curtiss Wright property, Wood-Ridge Detective Joseph Rutigliano told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The man’s brother said he’d called his girlfriend yesterday afternoon to tell her he’d planned a suicide, had taken some pills and was in the woods. Then he hung up on her, Rutigliano said.

She then called the man’s brother, who alerted police, he said.

“All surrounding agencies were notified — as well as NJ Transit police, due to the fact that the woods run next to an active train track,” Rutigliano said. “NJ Transit slowed all trains down approaching the area while we searched.”

Hasbrouck Heights detectives also assisted with setting a perimeter, he said.

Noki wasn’t on the trail very long: The man was found by Schielzo and Wood-Ridge Police Officer Jerry Onnembo within minutes, Rutigliano said.

He was taken to Hackensack Medical Center for evaluation, the detective said.
