END DWI, in conjunction with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association and the Police Traffic Officers Association have coordinated the annual candlelight vigil beginning at 6:30 p.m. at One Bergen Plaza.
"As in past years, we will solemnly remember those who have been needlessly killed or injured by drunk drivers on the roadways of Bergen County," said Park Ridge Lt. Peter Mauro, commander of his department's Patrol Division.
"We will also further our commitment to removing those who operate motor vehicles while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and to enhance traffic safety throughout the county," Mauro said.
The lieutenant said his colleagues in blue want DWI victims and their loved ones to know that "they and their family member aren't forgotten, and also to reinforce with them that the local police are out in force trying to stop future DWI crashes."
END DWI President Lynn Sucorowski thanked the law enforcement partners for honoring the victims and their surviving loved ones by being "proactive in eradicating driving while intoxicated incidents."
"We hope everyone uses good judgment before getting behind the wheel after having alcoholic beverages," Sucorowski said. "It's about good decision-making."
