The SWAT unit and county Crisis Negotiation Team rushed to Hunt Walk complex after someone found a note in the man’s apartment that said: “Don’t look in the garage,” a source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The call came in just after noon for “a barricaded subject armed with shotgun,” BCPD Capt. James Mullin said.

“Traffic in the immediate area of the incident was detoured during the incident,” Bergenfield Police Capt. Cathy Madalone said, adding that a gun was found in the apartment. “The residents in the area were evacuated from their homes as a safety measure.”

SWAT team members entered the garage and found the 50-something man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

Among the others responding were Bergenfield police, the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police from Dumont, New Milford, Tenafly, Teaneck and Englewood and an ambulance crew from Hackensack University Medical Center.
