HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The bond between police dogs and their handlers is always strong, even after the four-legged partners retire, and it was no different for Bergen County Sheriff's Officer James Schielzo and George, whose official tour of duty ended Jan. 30.

George, who remained part of the household, "will always be missed by me and my family," Schielzo said in response to dozens of condolence messages.
