Police said Ashley Sara Chieco was headed north in a southbound lane when her 2011 Hyundai Tucson slammed into a 2000 BMW 323. She was later pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Chieco recently received a Masters Degree in psychology from New Jersey City College in Jersey City. She supervised the mental health unit at the Mental Health Association in New York and was a crisis counselor at Hoboken University Medical Center, besides teaching at BCC.

Visigint hours are today from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Kohler Funeral Home, 280 Hackensack St., Wood-Ridge. Funderal Mass is at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at Assumption R.C. Church, Wood-Ridge, followed by cremation at Cedar Lawn Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to her favorite charities, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

“I was there moments before the accident,” one motorist wrote. “I was driving southbound on 18 in the left lane and saw a lady going the wrong way coming towards me (going northbound on the southbound side) in a navy SUV.

“She was driving erratically, swerving between the grass median and the road. Luckily I saw her a couple hundred feet away and had time to react and get out of the way. She continued going the wrong way down the road and must have struck another car head-on.”
