Barricaded Hackensack Ex-Con Coaxed Out By Mom

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A career criminal wanted for robbery barricaded himself in a Hackensack garden apartment -- threatening to stab himself and begging to be shot by police -- before his mother helped coax him out, authorities told Dailiy Voice.

Alec Parker, 31, was being held without bail in the Bergen County Jail pending a hearing Friday morning after the brief Thursday afternoon standoff.

Parker, whose rap sheet stretches back more than a dozen years, surrendered after about a half-hour when police brought his mother to the scene in the 200 block of Second Avenue, said Capt. Francesco Aquila, the department's officer in charge.
