“Live your life, live your life, live your life,” wrote 31-year-old Vladimir Artavia, who was killed sometime between 2:15 and 3 a.m. Saturday.
Hasbrouck Heights police, responding to several 911 calls, found his body in the eastbound lane of Williams Avenue near Louis Street, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said today..
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born in Cosa Rica, Artavia worked as a waiter at Bel Posto Italian Restaurant in Hackensack — and was walking home from work when he was struck.
A literature lover, he most recently listed John Irving’s “In One Person” as a book he’d been reading, rated Steven Pinker’s “The Stuff of Thought: Language As a Window Into Human Nature” very highly and also enjoyed Stephen King’s “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.”
Artavia also counted himself a big fan of, among others, authors Jane Austen, the poet Pablo Neruda, Czeslaw Miloz and Jorge Luis Borges — as well as Plato.
His family said his body is being flown to Costa Rica, where services will be held.Investigators believe the car involved was a four-door Honda Accord, from 2008 through 2012.
