Authorities: North Bergen man sexually abused Fairview girl, 8, while other child watched

EXCLUSIVE: A North Bergen man accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year old Fairview girl at least twice last August did so while a 6-year old was present, authorities have charged.

Abraham Anibol Chumil, 33, was brought into court today for an arraignment on charges of first-degree attempted sexual penetration of a child less than 13; second degree criminal sexual assault of a child; impairing or debauching the morals of a child; and abusing or neglecting a child under 16.

The proceeding before Presiding Superior Court Judge Liliana DeAvila-Silebi in Hackensack was brief.

It was also the first time that CLIFFVIEW PILOT learned of the additional charges involving the other child.

Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Nicholas Ostuni said that his office has offered Chumil a plea agreement that would send him to prison for 10 years.

The judge said Chumil, a citizen of Guatemala who is single and unemployed, will likely face deportation.

Federal immigration authorities have placed a detainer on Chumil, who remains held on $200,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail following his Aug. 26 arrest by by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Fairview Police.
