Although initial reports were that a wire downed by a falling tree triggered the fire, investigators from Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli’s Arson Unit are collecting evidence.
“At first they didn’t think anything of it,” a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
“But then they found reason to call,” he said.
Initial reports from residents were that the building was fully engulfed and that Westwood firefighters were having trouble getting there, but Hillsdale police confirmed that wasn’t the case.
“I was right nearby and I didn’t even see smoke,” a ranking officer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
