Arrest made in boy’s hit and run

A 27-year-old man was drunk and on drugs when he fled the scene after running down a 16-year boy with his SUV, authories said today.

James M. Scott, of  Westwood, was behind the wheel of his 1995 Ford Explorer when it hit teen on Sand Road, across from Hegeman Park, around 7:10 p.m. Friday, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

The young man was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was admitted in critical condition to the pediatric intensive care unit. He remains there in stable condition.

Scott was pulling away from his house early this morning when members of Westwood police and the prosecutor’s office moved in and arrested him.

He remains held on $75,000 bail the Bergen County Jail, on charges of assault by auto and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury.
