Arsenio Amelco, who turned 23 on Friday, assaulted the 26-year-old female acquaintance in an underground garage at the Pier 115 restaurant in Edgewater in “the early morning hours” on Sunday,  Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said tonight.

During the assault, Amelco “beat the victim with his hands and threatened to kill her,” leaving the woman with “various injuries to her head, face, extremities and torso,” the prosecutor said.

She was treated at Hackensack University Medical Center and later released, he said.

Yesterday, detectives went to a relative’s house on Hudson Avenue near 55th Street in West New York looking for Amelco, Molinelli said.

The investigators discovered that he’d been there and “fled out of a back window onto a rooftop connected to the apartment,” but they quickly chased him down on the rooftop and took him into custody, the prosecutor said.

Amelco, who lives on Bergenline Avenue at 51st Street in West New York and works in a Union City bakery, was being held on $175,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail. He is charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault and threatening to kill his victim.

The INS has filed a detainer that will keep Amelco in the jail even if he posts bail.
