9th Street PATH station reopening, with a twist

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: The 9th Street PATH station in Manhattan reopens tomorrow morning at 5 o’clock, another step in restoring service, Govs. Chris Christie and Andrew M. Cuomo jointly announced tonight.

PATH riders will only be able to exit (and not enter) the 9th street station between the morning peak hours of 5 a.m.-9:30 a.m. This should help ease congestion along the line, the governors said.

After 9:30 a.m., passengers will be able to go in and out until 10 p.m.

With the Hoboken and Exchange Place stations still closed, PATH trains will now include stops at Newark, Harrison, Journal Square, Grove Street, and Newport stations in New Jersey and at the 9th, 14th, 23rd and 33rd Street stations in Manhattan — bypassing Christopher Street.

NOTE: Disabled passengers have access to the platforms only at Newark, Journal Square and 33rd Street.

Due to significant damage that resulted from the unprecedented and widespread flooding in the PATH tunnels and several stations, it will be several weeks before service resumes on the Newark-World Trade Center line and the lines to and from Hoboken station, authorities said.
