Edwin Estrada of Cliffside Park broke into the victim’s residence through an unlocked front door and hit the elderly man in the head with something, possibly a frying pan, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

Estrada was later arrested in New York City and charged in Hackensack with attempted murder. He made it easy for investigators, the prosecutor said, after using the victim’s credit card to buy clothing in Washington Heights — a transaction captured on surveillance video.

Estrada’s $500,000 bail is expected to increase once charges are upgraded. He’s still being held in the city  pending extradition.
