EXCLUSIVE: Three Port Authority police officers who work at the Holland Tunnel, one of them a PBA delegate, have been temporarily suspended for allegedly falsifying truck inspection records, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.
All three were suspended with pay earlier this week following an investigation by the authority’s Internal Affairs Bureau, a source with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.
One is an outspoken delegate of the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, the source said.
Internal affairs officers working out of the Office of the Inspector General’s Office in Hoboken “had been watching them for awhile,” he said.
It was unclear what information was believed bogus, or how it was allegedly reported.
Port Authority officers at Hudson River bridges and tunnels routinely stop trucks at all hours of the day.
They ask for a bill of lading and what type of load is being carried.
During the brief interview, the rigs are also quickly scanned for possible radioactive material, as part of anti-terror protection.
Each stop is then reported, with officers noting the make of the truck and the license plate number, as well as the date and approximate time.
