3 attempted murder charges against man in Hackensack shootout

UPDATE: Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced today that the man who he said fired point-blank at police and was then shot himself has been charged with three counts of attempted murder on a police officer.

Robert Leonardis, 22, remains in a coma at Hackensack University Medical Center, in the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. His bail is $1.5 million.

In addition to the attempted murder charges, Leonardis is charged with various weapons offenses in connection with the illegal .45-caliber handgun he used in the shootout, the prosecutor said.
