Born in A dos Cunhados, Portugal, he came to this country in 1977 where he settled in Garfield. He worked as a custodian in the maintenance department for Hackensack University Medical Center and was a parishioner of Saint Francis De Sales R.C. Church in Lodi.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Joaquin Matias, Agostino Matias and sister-in-law Maria Ascenso.
He is predeceased by his wife, Maria (nee Matias).
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5 at G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union St., Hackensack.
A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial following at Hackensack Cemetery, 289 Hackensack Ave., Hackensack.
